Excellent book! Very fast read, something about very short chapters makes it go fast. However, this was one I definitely didn't want to end. In fact, I was left wanting more.
The story centers around a group of female professionals in the San Francisco law enforcement and media community, who come together to sort of solve cases using their respective abilities. The group consists of a homicide detective, an assistant D.A., a medical examiner, and a reporter from one of the S.F. newspapers. The first case they tackle involves the killing of several brides and grooms during or shortly after what should be one of the happiest times of their lives. I won't go into any specifics of the plot, or the way the group interacts to lend a behind the scenes support to solve the crime.
This is the first of what has become one of the longest running series' in James Patterson's resume'.

1st to Die A Novel Women Murder Club No 1 James Patterson Books Reviews

Very good book. I understand it was primarily centered around the four friends, but I think the ending could have been stronger. I wish Chris had lived, then it wouldn’t have made the ending so sad (

Books with sad endings are a let down. The murder mysteries were solved with an unexpected twist at the end, but I still think it could have ended better.
This is the beginning of the Women's Murder club books. Every one has most of the initial women from different parts of the women working somewhere in the capacity of murder cases (police officer, morgue doctor, crime scene reporter, district attorney's office) with the officer Lindsey Boxer as the main character. I have all of the books and plan on keeping them as if you wait long enough you can begin reading the series again. I'm just hoping the last one written will not be the last.
Well, OK, it was easy reading and told from the point of view of the women characters. But, despite it being believable and plausible, something was missing. For some reason, it's only women writers who are usually able to get the tone right. I think EM Forster is an exception (Howard's End). Sue Grafton gets the female angle right, Dorothy L. Sayers, Barbara Vine... all those. But guys just miss. So, Robert Crais too - I've read all his novels so far, and one of them was written from the POV of the female bomb expert. Good story, but, again, something flat about the characterisation. No matter, I'm looking forward to reading No.2 in the women's murder club series.
This is my 1st James Patterson book and I wish I had not waited so long I have read all of Catherine Coulter all of Iris Johansen all of kindra Elliott's all of their FBI series books and the Eve Duncan series and have been very depressed trying to find something compatible. Wow!!!! this kept me guessing from start to finish and I was totally blown away by the ending. Did not expect that at all. Now on to the next book.
James Patterson is just a great author. His characters, plots, plot twist, detail, pace, etc., are always wonderful. This is the first book of a great series. I had not read this one before - I had read two other books in the series several years ago. This was a book I couldn’t put down. I thought I had it figured out three different times. A story about a serial killer - three random brides and grooms with no apparent connection. Four women (each with their own area of expertise) privately investigate the killings “on their own.” Each of the women are bad a—s, but very real. I don’t want to give the story away. I feel it is sufficient to say that James Patterson just writes amazing books - and this is another one.
This is the first James Patterson novel I have ever bought. Didn't think he was my kind of author. Then I saw this series. He is my kind of author. Great suspense and unbelievable finish. Only problem he's going to wreck my book budget. Wonder if he's considering Unlimited?
I'm not one to read detective stories, but am now hooked on the Women's Murder Club series. The main characters are fun, the murder cases compelling. Following each case as it unfolds is an adventure. Witnessing the crime as it's being committed is a hair puller and then following each main character's role in making sense of the atrocity is a great study in crime solving. I also love that the stories are set in San Francisco and surrounding areas, in neighborhoods I know and love. I'm now starting book 11 in the series, and am dreading reaching book 18. The great friendship between these four women and the events that bring them together make for an ideal girlfriend group. Reading each characters growth and struggles makes for an absorbing read. Women's Murder Club is my summer beach read!
