This is a darling book for pre-k through second grade. For younger children it helps to reinforce rhyming. For older children it aids in making reasonable guesses for unfamiliar words. It’s funny and children really enjoy it. (I happen to think this one is much better than the sequels.)

The Hungry Thing Jan Slepian Ann Seidler Richard E Martin Books Reviews

This was a favorite book of mine when I was little and my almost 3 year old loves it as well )
A classic. I still haven't completely figured out why, but my kids all loved it and now our grandkids love it. Our old copy was completely worn out.
This book was read to me when I was a child & I loved it. It is out of print, so I oculd only find it from used sellers, but it is wonderful. My 6 y.o son loves it. A Hungry Thing comes to town and demads to be fed, but he says funniy things like "Boop & smackers," "tickles" etc. T^he adult townspeople cannot figure out what the Hungry Things is talking about, but a little boy does "soup & crackers", "pickles", etc. The town successfully feeds the Hungry Things and all ends well. Lovely story.
My students looove this book! They think it is so silly. Definitely a class favorite
This was a fun book for preschoolers. They giggled at the funny names of the foods that the Hungry Thing wanted to eat...foodles (noodles), feetloaf (meatloaf), gollypops (lollipops). The kids loved the "monster"-looking main character, and loved to shout out "FEED ME!!". We did lots of extension activities while reading the book...set up a store for the Hungry Thing, acted out the parts in the book, sequenced his requests, etc. This was such a fun way to get preschoolers to think about rhyme and phonemic awareness.
Arrived in a package container and was gift wrapped in stars and stripes paper announcing its arrival in immaculate condition. Clever idea- a gift to me! Love this book! Thank you.
The book arrived in condition stated and within the dates specified. It's a favorite of ours, I am putting it aside for my grandchildren - we have a very worn one from when our kids were small so we wanted a second copy.
