At Queen Elizabeth's palace, intrigue abounds. And when a naive girl with a gift for keen observation enters the court, she can hardly imagine the role she will play in bringing England - - indeed, the whole of Europe - to the brink of war. Nor can she foresee her own journey to the brink of ecstasy and beyond. When she becomes a junior lady of Queen Elizabeth's bedchamber, Rosamund is instructed by her cousin, the brilliant and devious secretary of state Sir Francis Walsingham, to record everything she observes. Her promised reward a chance at a good marriage. But through her brother Thomas, Rosamund finds herself drawn to the forbidden, rough-and-tumble world of theatre, and to Thomas's friend, the dramatic, impetuous playwright Christopher Marlowe. And then Rosamund meets Will Creighton - a persuasive courtier, poet, and would-be playwright who is the embodiment of an unsuitable match.
The unsanctioned relationship between Rosamund and Will draws the wrath of Elizabeth, who prides herself on being the Virgin Queen. Rosamund is sent in disgrace to a remote castle that holds Elizabeth's cousin Mary Stuart, the imprisoned Queen of Scots. Here, Walsingham expects Rosamund to uncover proof of a plot against Elizabeth. But surely, nothing good can come of putting an artless girl in such close proximity to so many seductive players and deceptive games. Unless, of course, Rosamund can discover an affinity for passion and intrigue herself.
New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jane Feather conspires with history to tell this dazzling story about two very real, very wily queens - and one impassioned young woman whose life they change forever.

All the Queen Players (Audible Audio Edition) Jane Feather Rosalind Ashford Audible Studios Books Reviews
It was okay, but not really too interesting in terms of the historical time period. I would have liked to have found Elizabeth and Mary more interesting, known more about their innermost thoughts and emotions.
Gruesome details about about the punishment dealt out to the traitors; people at court were cold, deceptive, manipulative USERS; interesting to find out how cheap Elizabeth was in dressing and accomodating lodgings for for her ladies-in-waiting.
Eliabeth was quite cruel to Mary, but nobody remarks on that, as if it was to be expected even though Mary was a Queen. Not chopping off her head for 18 years isn't my idea of graciousness. I'd like the author to have made a point of how afraid Elizabeth was to meet her/have Mary at Court, and she didn't. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the novel felt flat to me. I never got to like Rosamund much, even though I felt somewhat sorry for her because I didn't think she had much choice in being a traitor. The exposing of Christopher Marlowe's possibly being gay was an interesting point.
I have read almost every book she has written. I really enjoy the trilogies. But, I had trouble getting into the relationship between Kit and Thomas. Because of that, I just never got into the story. I didn't like the Thomas character at all and I don't want to spend the time trying to get into a story.
I wouldn't recommend this book.
I bought this for my mother, she loves romance novels. She spends a great deal of her time reading and is always satisfied by this author.
Love the author and all she writes.
Jane Feather is one of my favorite authors, and I'm probably not being fair to say this was my least favorite of her books that I've read so far, but I am a sucker for happy endings, and even though the heroine ends up with a satisfying family life, it's not what I had hoped for. I read to be not only entertained but uplifted. When too much of the world's unfairness and tragic realities enter into a book, it pulls me down. I want the heroes to find ways to rise above the situation...that goes with my hope of all things working together for good and love overcoming all. Sadly, I guess that's why I prefer fiction over nonfiction.
This book had its great moments but it seemed really unfocused. I really didn't feel any chemistry between the characters as opposed to many of Feather's other books. It's not exactly a book about romance, its more of a interesting glimpse into the history of Queen Elizabeth I court and the world of spy's. Thomas Walsingham and Christopher Marlow are based off the real men who worked as spy's under the Queens secretary. They seem to be the more interesting part of the story. However this book really lacks the passion and sensuality that Feather usually provides and her stories. It's a fine book, but not her best...
P.S The story of Thomas Walsingham and Chris Marlow aka Kit really sparked my interest. If you find it interesting also I recommend reading the book Dead man in Deptford....its really good.
I am a big Jane Feather fan I have all her books but I found this one disapointing. I read romance because I like happy endings this one doesn't deliver. All the Queen's Players is well written, but more in the style of a Phillippa Greggory novel than a typical romance. I imagine Ms Feather is stretching her scope as an author, and she proved she can successfully write in a different style. I pushed through to the end hoping it would get better and when I finished I was a little disgusted. If you love her books be prepared this one may surprise you.
