I found the conceit of three interconnected stories intriguing and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked here. I bought the book for Gigi Pandian's "Fool's Gold" section as it is the prequel to her Jaya Jones series and I like to read prequels before sequels. I was not disappointed in Ms. Pandian's section, but also enjoyed the Diana Vallere's "Midnight Ice" and Kendel Lyn's "Switch Back". I'll definitely have to follow up on their work also."Midnight Ice" kicks of the stories with Madison Knight as an interior decorator escaping the breakup of a relationship by heading to California where she ends up in the middle of a confusing mystery regarding a stolen diamond, but she figures out a solution in spite of numerous red herrings. Clever and entertaining!
"Switch Back" finds Elliott Lisbon, Ballantyne Foundation director, in Texas examining a strange bequest to the Foundation and the murder complicating the issue. Very vivid characters and the location was perfect for the story.
"Fool's Gold" was an excellent introduction to Ms. Pandian's series about Jaya Jones and set the stage for what to expect. (She doesn't disappoint - definitely give the series a try!) We learn about Jaya and some of her friends and gain excellent insight into how Jaya operates and how Ms. Pandian writes. Clever plotting with twists and a reasonable solution make the story a delight!
All three stories are great reads and excellent introductions to some very entertaining sleuths!

Other People Baggage Henery Press Mystery Novella Collection Volume 1 Kendel Lynn Gigi Pandian Diane Vallere 9781938383106 Books Reviews
Three authors wrote these three interconnected mystery novellas, all good reading. Read this book too see how they fit together. I was furnished this ebook in return for this honest review.
This book contains three short stories that intertwine when each protagonist ends up with another person luggage after a mix up at the airport. Each story is fast paced, well written and strong character development. All the stories can stand on their own and a great introduction to new characters and authors. I enjoyed all of the authors stories so much that I have purchased other books by them with these characters.
Three interconnected, yet entirely different stories, each an excellent murder mystery. Different styles but I loved how their luggage contained each of their styles and personalities and how each other implemented what they were left With! Very Clever! Thank you ladies!
I am a huge Gigi Pandian fan, so the Fools Gold novella was, by far, my fav. That being said, the luggage mixup that temporarily hogtied our three detective heroines is brilliant! It was an interesting way to introduce three totally different main characters and highlight those differences in a non-judgmental way. It also added a bit of extra mystery, and humor, to two rather ordinary story lines.
Let's face it, I prefer full-length mysteries. There are three shorter mysteries in this book, each connected by lost suitcases. So, the three sleuths had to solve their mysteries without their own clothing. They each did it in a somewhat different way, but that was only a minor part of the story. Each would work without that connection.
It's tricky to write a book that is neither a short story, nor a full one, and that may have been the problem with one of the mysteries - too much plot, because one did confuse me a little. However, they were all fun, they all solved their mysteries, and the book as a whole probably deserved three and a half stars.
Okay, I haven't said anything about the plots, so you'll have to take a peek yourself. Enjoy!
The 1st novella, Midnight Ice, needed some serious editing, There were sentences that just did not make sense and left me wondering what the author actually meant. The editing for the 2nd novella, Switch Back, was greatly improved, but there was one place where I could not figure out what the author was saying. (I never did figure out if the movers were moving furniture in or out of the hotel.) I am looking forward to more books by this author - I loved BOARD STIFF. The editing was also good for the 3rd novella, Fool's Gold. However, it was easy to figure out "who done it" early in the story. I think this author shows promise, but needs more experience to be great.
Because of poor editing, I am becoming rather discouraged with novellas by new authors. They need to find someone with good editing skills to read their first authoring attempts. Professional grammar, spelling, and sentence structures go a long ways towards good first impressions - especially with new authors. No, I am not a professional editor, but, thankfully, I had some great school teachers who were very strict about being professional with writing skills. When I read to relax, I like to be caught up in a good story with no glaring grammatical errors to ponder or interfere with the flow of the story.
Who knew that lost luggage was an adventure. Three very different characters with only their luggage to connect them. The three stories were all very well written. Amusing with a large dollop of mystery and even a bit of danger. I would recommend this book.
Adventure in Carmel, nothing is what it seems to be and no one is who they claim to be, Our sharp eyed heroine saves the day.
A murder in Texas and another lady bereft of her luggage but not her wits.A town divided and the new owner our protagonist, is at odds with both sides.
The Third story is a locked room mystery. With a castle, a magician and of course lost luggage.
